Green Mt. Magdiwata, Green Agusan del Sur: An Earth Day Celebration

Woah.... It is my 6th time to plant a tree and I love it.

Today is the Earth Day and I know that you, too, are doing some activities for our mother earth. Even Spiderman is advocating today's activity.

I am happy that on this day, I planted a tree in the Majestic Mountain of Magdiwata in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. This mountain provides potable water in the more than 5,000 households. And according to some gossips, it has a gold deposits. Yep! A gold deposits that will take your life as a collateral damage. Because it is a big NO to conduct mining on this area.

It took us a very hard time to climb the mountain, you can see the picture below how steep it is

In a signature of commitment to protect the Mt. Magdiwata

So, here's a my written report about the said activity.

In observance to the Earth day celebration in the province of Agusan del Sur, a tree planting activity was conducted by the Agusan del Sur Sustainable Development Council (ASESDC) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur and the Municipal Government of San Francisco last April 22.

The tree used on the said activity is a Philippine Rosewood, locally known as Toog tree.

Other offices such as Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), DILG provincial office, 26th IB and 401st Brigade of Philippine Army, PNP provincial and municipal offices, private and public schools, local media and employees of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur participated on the said activity.

Mayor Jenny de Asis of the Municipality of San Francisco was also there to show her big support in the greening program for the Mt. Magdiwata as well as in protecting it from any outsiders.

Remember the incident after she declared an all-out protection campaign against all forms of environmentally destructive activities which resulted in capturing an illegal loggers last July 2013.

Also, Governor Eddiebong Plaza has a big support on the said project not just as chairman of the ASESDC but as an Agusanon who love to protect the environment of the province.

The provincial executive even said “They can choose between leaving while standing or they will be removed as they lie down dead,” in an radio interview last July 2013 because of the illegal miners caught during a raid in Mt. Magdiwata.

Before the actual tree planting, Forester Danilo J. Sarong of the PENRO told the participants before the demo on how to plant the seedling, he said that the activity is not only just a tree planting but also a Tree Parenting and Tree Growing activity. Because the participants will not just plant the tree but to nourish and protect it until it grow.

Dr. Rex T. Linao, Ph. D. Co-Chairperson of ASESDC explained about how important the planting of trees in the Mt. Magdiwata is.  Because Mt. Magdiwata is the best source of potable water in the municipality of San Francisco and nearby places.

Mr. Jesusimo L. Ronquillo lead the “Deklarasyon alang sa hugot nga suporta sa KAMPANYA PARA SA PAGDUMALA SA MT. MAGDIWATA (KP2M2)”( in which declares the commitment of every Agusanon in protecting the majestic mountain.
